HumBug has developed a novel survey system to detect and identify different species of mosquitoes by their flight tone using budget smartphones. The project received funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation allowing use of this innovative system in Sub-Saharan Africa (Humbug).
Since September 2024, additional funding from NERC is enabling acoustic monitoring for invasive insect species in the UK(Humbug II).
