The HumBug project has developed a novel survey system to detect and identify different insect species by their flight tone using budget smartphones.
Humbug I (2020-2024) used the distinctive buzz of mosquitoes in Africa to identify host-seeking species that transmit malaria to humans. Humbug II (2024-2027) is developing this mobile acoustic sensing system to monitor invasive species that threaten the UK's biodiversity.
