Fieldwork in Tanzania

January 2020

In January 2020, researchers of the University of Oxford (UK) and Kinshasa School of Public Health (DRC) teams visited the Ifakara Health Institute (Tanzania) to start collecting and recording mosquitoes in rural communities of the Kilombero valley.

It was a great opportunity for all the teams to work together again. We visited the facilities, met rural communities and collected and recorded different species of mosquitoes using different devices in order to train the algorithm.

We planned to visit Ifakara again in summer 2020 to do trials with bednets and the sensors, but unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we were forced to postpone this trip. We would like to thank our Tanzanian collaborators for their hospitality and kindness. We are looking forward to coming back soon!
